Macroplan was selected as energy efficiency advisor for Aarhus Light Rail project. During the acquisition process Macroplan has evaluated the actual energy requirements in the Invitation to tender, as well as being part of the team behind the evaluation of tenders, resulting in a detailed energy efficiency assessment of each tenderer’s project proposal. There was considerable differences in energy efficiecy among the participating tenders.
This procurement project was the first of its kind in Denmark, and the first ever where the UIC/UNIFE standard on energy efficiency was applied in a light rail transit procurement project. Light Rail is normally seen as a very energy efficient mode of transport.
The evaluation took place prior to the final decision for procuring the Stadler/Ansaldo STS light rail system for Aarhus Light Rail Transit, see official press release here (in Danish).
Following a Study by Macroplan and IZT (Berlin) on Non-Traction Energy Consumption and related CO2 emission from the European railway sector, UIC organised a one-day workshop to present the results of this study together with a comprehensive view of main activities within this field.
The Workshop provided an overview over the composition of non-traction energy consumption, the state of the art of legislation, key performance indicators, innovative solutions and good practises from members in the field of non-traction energy.
The workshop took place at UIC, Paris, on June 19th 2012. UIC website: www.uic.org.
